Welcome to the Canterbury Society of Art

The Society was founded in 1968 and has become the principal society for those with a practical interest in, and appreciation of, the visual arts in Canterbury and the surrounding areas. Over the years, membership has grown to the present level of around 100 members, comprising artists of all levels of ability, including absolute beginners, experienced amateurs, professionals and teachers.

The Society offers around forty meetings each year in two programmes, one from September to December and the other from January through to July. Each programme includes practical painting sessions, demonstrations, talks and critiques. Each of the programmes normally includes a session of life drawing, either of a costume or nude model. For full details of the current programme, visit the 'Meetings' page. Attendance at meetings averages 20 members.

In 2019, the Society held three exhibitions. The first was in April at St. Paul's Church in Canterbury; the second was in May at the Horsebridge Arts & Community Centre in Whitstable; the third was on the August Bank Holidayat Blean Village Hall.

The Society is pleased to welcome everyone with a genuine interest in the arts, and we are particularly keen to attract younger members and those working in three dimensions.

We regret that,
owing to the Corona virus situation,
all meetings are suspended until further notice.

If you would like to know more about the Society, please use the 'Contact us' page to contact the Secretary, Chairman or any member of the Committee.
